Speed of a Bubble Tube Set
|
This set consists of three long plastic tubes filled with colored mineral oils of different viscosities. Each tube contains a large air bubble that travels up the tube at a speed that depends on the viscosity of the oil and the angle the tube is held. Students time the bubbles over measured lengths and graph the results to discover that the slope of the graph is the speed of the bubble, and that the bubbles rise at constant speed. Includes student instructions and teacher notes.
