Weight of Air Cylinder
Leave the stopcock open and weigh this cylinder. Then evacuate it and close the stopcock and it will have lost weight. Many students will be surprised to find that air has measurable weight. The cylinder is made of heavy gauge aluminum with one end sealed tight and the other bearing a brass stop-cock. The cylinder can be evacuated with an aspirator or vacuum pump. The difference in weight is usually about 0.6 g. Requires balance reading to 0.01g.
