Explore the physiological effects of common drugs and active chemical agents on the common crustacean, Daphnia. Students expose Daphnia to dilute solutions of aspirin, caffeine, adrenaline, nicotine and ethanol and note the crustacean’s nervous and circulatory system response. Lets students examine dosage levels, reversibility and the contrast between stimulants and depressants. Materials supplied for up to 15 lab stations, each of which should also have a microscope. Includes a complete teacher’s manual. You will also need a fresh Daphnia culture.
