Sunscreen Effectiveness Evaluation

How do we know which sunscreens are more effective? This kit introduces students to the scientific method as they test sunscreen products under laboratory conditions. Light energy, acting on a photosensitive chemical agent, is partially blocked by the sunscreen. After exposure, your students measure the amount of chemical conversion and plot it as a function of the “sun protection factor”. Your students may even want to bring in their own sunscreens for evaluation! Includes materials for 24 students.
