Hair and Fibers Kit
Not all hairs and fibers are alike. Differences that may not be apparent to
the naked eye can be discerned microscopically. With this kit, your students
will learn to distinguish between human, cat, dog, sheep, rabbit, mink, muskrat,
and seal hairs by observing medullary and scale patterns using a set of prepared
microscope slides and a unique hair casting technique. The fiber comparison
slide set includes cotton, linen, hemp, silk, wool, nylon, and rayon fibers.
Using the polarized filters and/or an optional UV light, they will observe
changes in the fibers' appearance.
