DNA, RNA Protein Synthesis Kit
|
Demystify connection of DNA/RNA to protein synthesis. Construct a model of DNA, replicate it, and then use half of the ladder to build messenger RNA (mRNA). Transcription in the nucleus and the movement of mRNA are then simulated by placing it on a model ribosome. Simulate translation by matching the mRNA and its codons to transfer RNA (tRNA) and its anti-codons. Amino acids bond to form a protein molecule. Students experience how information stored in DNA is expressed as a finished protein and conclude by disconnecting the protein chain from tRNA and tRNA’s from mRNA showing their availability to continue the process. Kit contains enough reusable material for 12 lab groups of two students.
