This demonstration shows the relative strengths of oxidizers. At first hydrogen peroxide is the oxidizing agent to produce iodine from iodide ion. Potassium permanganate is a stronger oxidizer, and the hydrogen peroxide then becomes a weak reducer, producing a colorless solution from the purple permanganate.
