Density and Slope Set
|
This is a class set of 48 density specimens, organized in storage tubes as 12 sets of four. Each tube contains a particular material. Students determine the mass and volume of all four samples, and graph the results. The data is not random, but shows a clear linear pattern with a slope characteristic of the material used. The slope is called the density of the substance. The samples can also be used for testing student's measuring abilities, and as samples of industrially important materials. Set includes samples of maple wood, polypropylene, nylon, acrylic (2 colors,) polyurethane, phenolic, PVC (3 colors,) Teflon, and aluminum. A single group set of eight specimens, containing only aluminum and PVC, is also available. A balance is required for weighing, and either a graduated cylinder or a metric ruler for determining the volumes.
