Dia, Para, and Ferromagnetism
This apparatus is used to demonstrate dia-para-ferro magnetism in an inhomogeneous magnetic field.

  • Reversible pole pieces for centric and homogenous magnetic field
  • Coils are enamelled Cu wire wound round on high impact plastic moulded bobbins
  • Each coil is enclosed on the same housing
Principle and Working:

Diamagnetism is the property of material which causes it to create a magnetic field in opposition of an externally applied magnetic field, thus causing a repulsive effect.

Paramagnetism is a form of magnetism which occurs only in the presence of an externally applied magnetic field. Paramagnetic materials are attracted to magnetic fields.

Ferromagnetism is the basic mechanism by which certain materials (such as iron) form permanent magnets and/or exhibit strong interactions with magnets.

In the present setup, to demonstrates the magnetic behaviour of Bismuth, Nickel and Aluminium samples when suspended freely in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. These metals are attracted or repelled by magnetic field depending upon the magnetic property of the metal under investigation.
