Ideal Shape that Will Hold Its Own Weight
A catenary arch is the curve formed by a heavy, perfectly flexible cord, cable, or chain hanging from two fixed points that are not in the same vertical line and that are acted upon solely by gravity. An excellent companion to the Roman Arch, this “toy” will help your students understand the structural strength of an arch. It includes 13 precision-cut hardwood blocks (approximately 2" long and 1/2–1" thick), full-size template, and instructions.
