Composition of Soil Kit

What chemicals make up your local soil and why are they so important to living things found in the soil? Students will answer these questions and many more with this compact, teacher-designed soil test kit.

Simple chemical testing procedures are employed to determine water percentage; soil organic content; pH; reagent tests for calcium, carbonates, magnesium, phosphates and sulfates; and test paper determinations for ammonium, iron, nitrate and potassium. Discussion questions are furnished for each component. Includes enough materials for 30 students working in pairs.
