Students make a Daniell cell to study the characteristics of voltaic cells. A zinc electrode (25 x 102 mm) with an attached wire is immersed in dilute ammonium chloride solution in a porous cup. These, in turn, are immersed in copper sulfate solution containing a square copper electrode with attached wire, to produce an emf of 1.08 V. The cell includes a 41.2" x 5" battery jar, zinc and copper electrodes and a porous cup. With instructions.
