For quantitative investigations of the Stirling cycle, this engine can be operated in three different modes: as a heat engine, heat pump, and refrigerating machine. Students can clearly observe the individual sequences of motion at all times due to the clear construction. The displacement cylinder and displacement piston are made of heat-resistant quartz glass; the power cylinder, flywheel and gearbox cover are made of acrylic glass.

The glass of the displacement cylinder is also equipped with recessed temperature measurement sockets before and behind the displacement piston, to allow measurements of temperature differences during operation as a heat pump or refrigerating machine. The large acrylic glass flywheel features imprinted markings for measuring the revolutions per unit of time using a light barrier. For recording pV-diagrams, it is also possible to measure the pressure in the power cylinder via a hose connection; the string included in the scope of delivery can be fastened to the power piston to measure the stroke in order to determine the volume. The integrated engine is a generator unit with a two-stage belt pulley, which allows a conversion of the produced mechanical energy into electrical energy. It is equipped with a switchover option for operating an integrated lamp or external loads, or feeding electrical energy for operation as a heat pump or refrigerating machine, in accordance with the direction of rotation of the Stirling engine. Includes an alcohol burner.

For durability and reliability, the hardened steel crankshafts have ball bearings and the connecting rods are made of wear-resistant plastic. 12 VDC, 1W. Size: 30 x 22 x 16cm; weight: 3.5 lbs.
