Study the diversity of fish with these prestained, lyophilized proteins. Total proteins from Perch, Walleye, and Salmon are provided, each with a characteristic banding pattern when separated by denaturing SDS-polyacrylamide (PAGE) gel electrophoresis. Students identify the specific species from the results. The activity can be completed in 60 minutes with 2.5 hours allotted for staining/destaining. Kit includes material for six student groups, working with two groups per gel. Instructions, lyophilized protein samples, gel loading solution, electrophoresis buffer, practice loading dye, and protein staining solution are also provided. Three 12% polyacrylamide gels, vertical gel electrophoresis chamber, power supply, hot plate or burner, microcentrifuge, vortex, white light transilluminator, adjustable volume micropipette, microtube rack, glassware, methanol, acetic acid, and distilled or deionized water, all required, are available separately.
