Determine Mole Ratio through Experimentation.
- Explore the experimental process
- Can be completed in 45 min.
- Includes materials for eight group setups
When the molar relationship between two reactants in a reaction is unknown, it can be determined experimentally. In this lab activity, the total number of moles is kept constant while the amount of each reactant is varied. Students measure the temperature change in each reaction until the optimum ratio, the one that produces the greatest amount of heat, is found. After graphing the results, the mole ratio is determined.
