Students will experiment with pH and the effects of acid rain. They will simulate the problems associated with other forms of pollution and predict the effects on the environment and living organisms. They will then divide into groups representing large staffing divisions of a newspaper. They will research, write, edit, create artwork, layout and “typeset” a newsletter about the present laws. They will propose actions to prevent and/or reduce the problem. The newsletter should be duplicated for each class member and the school bulletin board. Duration: 3-4 class periods, plus research time. Materials for six student groups.
